• The US Justice Department has accused Google of using nefarious tactics to stay on the top as the world’s leading search engine.
  • According to the US Justice Department, Google holds a monopoly over the search engine market, with a 90% share.
  • They have accused Google of paying big tech companies like Apple to make Google the default search engine on all their devices.

All of us use Google as our search engine. Be it from our phones, computers, or whatever device you have – the default search engine on all devices is Google. It’s estimated that 90% of all Internet users use Google as their search engine.

But why is Google the default? Are there seriously no other competitors on the market? Have you ever thought about why we use only Google? What happened to Yahoo Search and Bing?

The US Justice Department also has the same question in their minds. They also wish to find out how and why Google has a monopoly in the search engine market, reigning supreme for decades.

Therefore, they have called Google in court to explain the situation over a 10-week trial period. Google CEO Sundar Pichai, along with many of their top executives, have been called for the Google Search Antitrust Trial. This trial will start tomorrow, October 10, 2023.

However, the main reason they have called Google to the court is to confirm their use of underhanded tactics to outdo all rivals. The underhand tactic – paying other tech companies to make Google the default search engine on their devices.

Many reports have surfaced which indicates that Google has paid millions of dollars to big tech companies like Apple to keep Google as the default search engine on all their devices. The same can be said for all companies producing Android smartphones. This gives Google an unfair upper hand, ruling out the possibility for any competition to exist.
