If you want to enhance your presence, reach and engagement on social media, then you must be ready to double down on visual content. Without a doubt, social media posts with visual content tend to generate more clicks and impressions, compared to those with simple text.
However, creating a visually-appealing and engaging graphic from scratch whenever you want to post on social media is not easy. Besides, the whole process can end up consuming too much of your time, which you should be otherwise spending elsewhere.
To make your work easier and save time, we recommend creating branded social media templates. You will then be making a few edits to these templates whenever you want to create a post.
In this article, we will take you through how to design social media templates.
Before everything else, you will first need to choose a design tool, which you will use to create your social media templates. And, there are hundreds of tools out there that you can use for this type of work.
Some of the best tools for creating social media templates include Photoshop, Illustrator, Canva, Pablo by Buffer, Snappa, NapoleonCat, and Desygner, just to name a few.
Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator will need someone with graphic design experience. So, if you don’t have such skills, then you should consider the others that we’ve listed here such as Canva, Snappa, or Pablo by Buffer.
We recommend Canva for those without graphic design skills since it’s extremely user-friendly. Furthermore, you don’t have to pay anything to use this tool. You will have access to almost all the features and tools that you need for your design work, without parting with anything.
Once you’ve selected your preferred graphics design tool, you will then need to select a template. All the tools that we’ve listed here come with free templates. So, you can simply browse their different libraries and then choose a template that you can work with.
Alternatively, you can also download pre-made social media templates on other sites or platforms. With ready-made templates, half the work has already been done for you, meaning you will only need to make a few changes to the template and it will be ready for publication on your social media account.
Some of the places where you can download ready-made templates include Vecteezy, BrandPacks, Templates.net, DryIcons and StockLayouts, and ContentBASE, among others. After you’ve downloaded your preferred social media templates, you will then need to upload them to the graphics design tool that you are using.
After you’ve selected your preferred template, you can now begin customizing it. Here, you will need to add your preferred images, fonts, colors, logos, and other elements. You should customize it until you are satisfied with the results.
If you are designing templates from scratch, you should pay attention to the fonts that you choose. Also, you should ensure your templates have adequate white space between the elements. Leaving enough white space will make it easier for the reader to see and consume the information.
If you have decided to use a pre-made template, then customization is equally straightforward. As we’ve highlighted above, half the design work has already been done for you for these templates. You just need to replace the graphics and a few visual elements that it has with your colors, text, or logo.
It will be highly advisable to create templates for different types of content that you will be posting on various social media platforms. This way, you won’t have to go back to the design process.
Ideally, you should create templates for images, written posts, infographics, testimonials, quotes, and videos. Also, when designing the templates, ensure their dimensions will be compatible with the different social media channels that you are using.
Once you’ve finished customizing your templates and you are happy with the results, you can then go ahead and download the designs in your preferred format. Most of the design tools we’ve featured here will allow you to download the designs in formats such as PNGs, JPGs, GIFs and PDFs.
From there, you will simply need to select the template based on the type of content that you want to post and make a few edits using your preferred design tool. And from there, you will have a visually-appealing post ready within a few minutes.
If you are using Canva, then you don’t necessarily need to download the templates after you’ve finished working on them. Canva will store the designs for you. You can then access your designs on the homepage at any time, edit them, and share them directly on your social media platforms.
Templates will make it faster, easier, and more convenient for you to create visually-stunning social media graphics. And as you can see, designing them is not a complicated process.
