Headlines:

  • New Twitter reports reveal that the company has lost 50% of its ad revenue since Elon Musk took over in October last year.
  • This decline escalated ever since Twitter made new policies limiting the number of posts users can see in a single day.
  • Due to such changes, users are leaving Twitter and switching over to the new rival app Threads by Meta.

Elon Musk recently posted a Tweet saying that the ad revenue of Twitter has dropped by 50% ever since he took over in October last year.

Ever since Elon Musk took over Twitter, the company has seen a steady decline. There are quite a few reasons as to why this app is seeing a steady decline.

One of the main reasons is the new policies that have upset Twitter users. One such policy limits the number of posts users can see in a day. Since the number of posts, you can see got significantly reduced, this also affects the visibility of ads on Twitter. Since ads are less visible, it’s not as effective as it was before, prompting advertisers to leave Twitter and advertise on other platforms.

In addition, when Elon Musk took control over Twitter, he sacked approximately half of all its 7,500 employees. This was done in an attempt to reduce the costs of running the business.

Plus, Twitter is currently under heavy debt. This has made the cash flow of the company go red as its dips to the negative mark. Regarding this drop[ in revenue, Elon Musk has said that his primary motive right now is to increase the cash flow to a positive mark before any other decision can be made.

While Twitter is declining steadily, its rival app – Meta’s Threads – is steadily becoming successful. Launched earlier this month, the app has gained over 150 million users – most of whom are Twitter users jumping over to Threads.
